UK company formation guide from Brazil

If you’re in Brazil and have an entrepreneurial spirit, you’ve probably thought about expanding your business into the UK market. The good news is that starting a company in the UK from Brazil is now very easy. So, if you want to start a company in the UK, keep reading and we’ll walk you through the process.

Advantages of having a company in the UK

There are a lot of reasons to register your business in the UK. Some of them include:

  • it’s a powerful marketplace to be a part of
  • the UK has one of the most advanced legal systems in the world
  • the tax system is fair and comprehensive
  • the UK encourages foreign businesses

There are many other reasons why it would be beneficial, but those are some of the main ones.

Company formation

UK company formation is a simple process and can be done by anyone. You don’t need to be a UK citizen and you don’t even have to physically be in the UK. The time taken depends on how quickly you need your company setup, but it could take as little as a week or two from start to finish.

You can choose whether or not you want an accountant involved in your new business formation process, but for those who do, we recommend getting one who has experience of registering companies in the UK. We recommend that this person should also have knowledge of what documents are needed during the registration process and what information needs to go into them so that everything is correct the first time around. This will save time further down the line when submitting tax returns etc…

Requirements to form a company in the UK from Brazil

To form a company in the UK, you must have:

  • A business plan.
  • A registered address in the UK. It’s possible to use a home address of a relative or (very good) friend, but of course that’s not ideal. It’s relatively easy to get a virtual office address - this is something you can opt for when you register a UK company with wamo.
  • A registered bank account. This can be an online bank account or another type of account as long as they are authorised by The Bank of England (or equivalent) and regulated under Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules on money laundering prevention and cyber security requirements. The majority of large banks will offer this service free-of-charge; simply look into opening one if yours doesn't already provide one. When you register your UK company with wamo, you can open a business account at the same time - saving a lot of hassle!
  • A registered telephone number which will be used only for communications relating directly with HMRC about VAT returns etc., please note however that whilst HMRC recommend using 0845 numbers over 01/02 numbers due to cost savings when submitting forms via phone call centres there isn't much difference between them so don't worry too much if this isn’t possible right now.

Just the beginning

As you can see, it’s quite simple to register a new UK business especially if you do so through a service provider like wamo. But remember that registering your company is just the first step on your big business adventure. It’s a good idea, for example, to enlist a good tax consultant who can help you get the most out of your business and help make sure that you pay the right amount of tax - harder to stay on top of when you’re remote.

You will also want to ensure that the company name is available before applying for your registration as a limited company. When you register with wamo, this search will be done for you so that you only submit a name that nobody else has.
